Let's be honest – we've all experienced at least one manager or boss who made us wonder how they ever got hired. The screaming matches, the impossible deadlines, the backstabbing...sometimes it gets so bad it's almost comical.
At A-Class Training, we understand the frustrations of dealing with a less-than-stellar boss. I´ve been fortunate enough to have some great bosses, and also one or two that I just…couldn´t. At one place the level of ineptitude was so incredibly extreme that it sounded made up. I think if I´d spent any more time there, my eyes would have permanently rolled back into my head. The only thing that kept me going whilst there was the incredible people I worked with. I´m quietly confident it was a trauma response. We couldn´t have been closer if we´d been abducted together. So when I say that I understand the need to have a tribe who can understand the madness, I REALLY mean it. That's why we want to give you a platform to vent, laugh, and commiserate.
Introducing: The Boss Hall of Shame
Starting next week, our newsletter will feature a new segment: The Boss Hall of Shame. We want your stories! Share your most cringe-worthy, outrageous, or unbelievable experiences with a terrible boss.
Here's a taste of what we've seen so far, directly from our own community:
"Carrying Ann's Lamp": "My boss would regularly "quit." She always did it at noon when the elevators & lobby were the busiest. She made two of us carry her lamp & plant. The three of us would be in the elevator, the doors would open at each floor, people would eye her, the plant, the lamp, then say, "I'll get the next one." We called it Carrying Ann's Lamp."
"The Magnum Discovery": "My first EA job back in college was to my department head. Made the mistake of looking in his desk drawer for a highlighter. Only to find magnum condoms."
Share Your Story!
Was your boss a narcissistic tyrant? A clueless wonder? A master of passive aggression? Or maybe they had some other bizarre way of making work unbearable? We want to hear it all!
Send your tales of workplace woe to ana@a-classtraining.com, or add your comments here or on the forum. You can choose to remain anonymous – we won't judge (at least we won´t judge you - the horrible boss is fair game).
By sharing our experiences, we can not only find some much-needed humour but also gain valuable insights into how to navigate difficult bosses and create better workplaces for ourselves.
Let the venting begin!
